Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a method of identifying unhelpful thinking patterns and understanding how they impact feelings and actions. Clients are challenged to identify thoughts and to consider how using more adaptive and flexible thinking can lead to an increase in positive emotions. CBT also teaches coping strategies that can help with emotion regulation and increase healthy behaviors. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) incorporates mindfulness training and values assessment to guide treatment. This therapy is about taking effective action guided by a person’s deepest values even when unpleasant and unwanted thoughts, images, feelings, sensations, urges, and memories may be present.
