Working together to manage mental health symptoms
The idea of taking medication to help with mental health symptoms is sometimes overwhelming and scary. Having accurate information about the pros and cons to taking medication is an important first step in the decision making process. Our goal is to give you a safe and professional environment to discuss your mental health situation and work with a prescriber to come up with the best solution. Our philosophy is that medication works best when paired with effective therapy that addresses the whole person.
We offer individualized psychiatric care for adults (18+) looking for a provider/prescriber in Spokane Washington. Michael Van Gelder, ARNP has experience treating a wide range of mental health issues such as clinical depression, stress-related disorders, anxiety, ADHD, and bipolar disorder. The services offered include:
- Psychiatric medication and evaluations for mental health conditions
- Ongoing psychiatric medication management
- Medication consults or second opinions, by referral
- Education on medication and non-medication treatment options
- Brief supportive and interpersonal psychotherapy with each visit, for established patients
Michael is able to accept many insurance plans so call today to schedule your appointment.
Please note that medication may or may not be appropriate or recommended for your issues and condition(s). Michael Van GeLder does not refill or manage non-psychiatric medications, including opioids or pain management. If you are on a controlled substance, there is no guarantee that Michael will prescribe or refill any of your medications on a first visit – without a full assessment, interview, review of your past records, and discussing together a safe treatment plan.
If you are actively drinking or using illicit drugs, you may not be a great fit for psychotropic meds with this office, until you are in recovery and address your substance use. Due to safety concerns and scope of practice, we are unable to provide care for those who are primarily requiring specialty services from a chemical dependency provider/prescriber (e.g. Buprenorphine, Methadone, alcohol detox) or need the variety of services of an established outpatient chemical dependency treatment program.
Your safety is our priority. Patients who are in treatment with Michael Van Gelder are stable enough to receive care in an office setting. If your condition is unstable, medically complex, or could benefit from a specialist setting, you will receive recommendations for transfer to an appropriate treatment setting that is more suitable for your care.
