Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Trauma Focused CBT is an evidenced based therapy for the treatment of post-traumatic stress and other trauma related issues in children and adolescents. Through a series of steps, the child and caregiver learn about the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviors and use the information to talk about the trauma experience. This allows the child to tell the story about what happened to them in a safe environment while learning how their thoughts about the trauma may be leading to negative feelings or behaviors.
Can help with:
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
- Adjustment after trauma experience
- Stress reactions that often lead to negative behaviors
Cognitive Processing Therapy
Cognitive Processing Therapy is an evidence based treatment for adult posttraumatic stress disorder and other trauma related experiences. This therapy follows specific steps in order to help a client address “stuck points” that continue the cycle of posttraumatic stress symptoms. Working with the therapist, a client will learn the physiological processes that occur when they experience triggering events, consider the impact of the trauma event on their current functioning, and work through thoughts and actions that may be blocking the healing process.
Can help with:
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
- Stress reactions related to past trauma events
- Trauma responses related to sexual assault
EMDR Therapy
EMDR is an evidenced based therapy used to treat trauma, PTSD, and other disturbing life experiences. EMDR utilizes an eight-phase protocol that helps people to heal from symptoms and emotional difficulties that arise as a result of traumatic or stressful events. Sometimes, traumatic memories keep us blocked or ‘stuck’ in emotional distress and pain. Through the utilization of EMDR, the mind is able to repair itself from psychological trauma the same as it heals physical wounds. When you injure yourself, your body works to close the open wound. If an object is stuck in the wound, then healing is delayed and it remains festering. Once you remove the ‘block’, your body is able to heal. EMDR works the same way, it targets blocking memories and beliefs in order to facilitate growth and healing. Research has shown that EMDR can provide the benefits of therapy that once took years to accomplish*Play and sand play therapy is used in conjunction with EMDR to help young children heal from trauma and behavioral difficulties.
