Psychological & Neuropsychological Assessment

When your symptoms are complex professional testing helps provide clarity

A Psychological or Neuropsychological assessment is a series of tests conducted by a licensed psychologist designed to gather information about how people think, feel, behave, and react.

A Neuropsychological assessment involves use of valid and reliable standardized tests designed to understand how different areas of the brain are working. These tests are primarily “paper and pencil” or hands-on type tests, in addition to a few that are administered on a computer. Because everyone is different, the psychologist will choose the most appropriate tests for each individual.

The evaluation process includes interviews, observation, and formal testing to help arrive at a report of the person’s abilities and behavior, which is then used to provide a diagnosis and guide recommendations for the individual’s treatment.

The psychologist may also request, with the patient’s permission, to speak to others who may be able to help the psychologist understand the patient’s functioning, such as family members or other healthcare providers. The diagnosis and recommendations for treatment will be discussed with the patient during a feedback session.
